Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene pushed the right buttons and Congress exploded into chaos in the middle of the night. MTG made a comment about Democrat Rep. Jasmine Crockett’s fake eyelashes and that got Crockett ticked off. It got so heated that even former bartender turned Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez got involved. The whole scene played out like a really bad ‘Real Housewives’ episode with them losing control of the floor and causing embarrassment for the entire country. It seems like they were one fist away from becoming a Jerry Springer episode next.
They were meeting to talk about Attorney General Merrick Garland and to discuss holding him in contempt of Congress, but the ‘Real Housewives of Congress’ decided to argue for about an hour and Chair James Comer lost control and couldn’t maintain any order whatsoever. There was even a slight dispute between Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert who sat two seats away from each other.
What exactly did MTG say? She asked if any Democrats presently on the panel had Judge Juan Merchan’s daughter on any type of payroll, which would look very bad for any judge working on the Donald Trump hush money trial. The daughter allegedly worked at a digital agency known to be progressive, so there’s a handful of Republicans pointing that out in defense of Donald Trump.
Rep. Crockett didn’t like the question, so she said: “Please tell me what that has to do with Merrick Garland, do you know what we’re here for?” Greene said back: “I don’t think you know what you’re here for. I think your fake eyelashes are messing up what you’re reading.” And that’s when AOC found the time to get herself mixed into the drama like it was a bar fight. AOC said: “that’s disgusting” and wanted the comments removed.
When all was said and done, the vote to hold Garland in contempt took place and The Hill reported the results:
Republicans moved to hold Garland in contempt after the attorney general refused to hand over the audio recording of President Biden’s interview with special counsel Robert Hur, despite already having the transcript of the conversation. Biden claimed executive privilege over the audio recordings.
The vote passed 24-20 along party lines just after 11 p.m. EDT Thursday night, hours after the House Judiciary Committee did the same. The full House will now vote on holding the attorney general in contempt.
ps: fake eyelashes are a bad trend, just like anything high-waisted. Guys don’t like these 🙂
