Sen. Manchin says ‘Absolutely not’ about proposed $2k stimulus checks

Sen. Joe Manchin, a West Virginia Democrat, has said “absolutely not” about sending Americans much needed $2k stimulus checks. Joe Biden, President-elect, would like to have them sent out. Numerous Democrats have agreed to it and even some Republicans.

Manchin said getting people vaccinated is “job No. 1” per a report on The Hill.

The proposed $2k stimulus checks received much support from many Democrats and President Trump, but GOP Senators were quick to push that into obscurity, leaving many Americans with only a check for $600 – and not everyone has received it yet, and not everyone qualifies.

Trump suggested the $2k checks before Christmas, but the GOP eventually blocked it, with then Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell blocking it as well.

Democrat Chuck Schumer requested that the proposed $2k stimulus checks be put to a vote, but McConnell shot that down as well, per CNBC:

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said Thursday that Democrats would allow for votes limiting a liability shield for tech companies and establishing a commission to examine the 2020 election if Republicans agreed to hold a separate up-or-down vote on sending $2,000 checks to most Americans.

“Just give us a vote on the House-passed bill, and we can vote on whatever right-wing conspiracy theory you like,” the New York Democrat said on the Senate floor.

McConnell, the Kentucky Republican, had refused. McConnell has been consistently blocking the possibility of a $2k stimulus check. At one point after he blocked the requests, his home in Kentucky had been vandalized.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi also had her garage vandalized and a pig head left on the ground in front of it. She was recently reelected as Speaker of the House of Representatives.
