White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt was abruptly cut off during a live CNN interview after repeatedly calling out the network’s coverage of former President Donald Trump. The tense exchange occurred during an interview with host Kasie Hunt, who ended the segment after Leavitt refused to stop criticizing CNN’s reporting.
During the interview, Leavitt accused CNN of promoting a hostile narrative against Trump, particularly likening him to a fascist dictator. “It takes about five minutes to Google ‘Jake Tapper Donald Trump’ to see that Jake Tapper has consistently likened President Trump to Adolf Hitler,” she said.
Hunt quickly pushed back, warning Leavitt against attacking CNN’s journalists. “Ma’am, I’m going to stop this interview if you continue to attack my colleagues,” Hunt said. She then attempted to redirect the conversation, saying, “I would like to talk about Joe Biden and Donald Trump, who you work for.”
Leavitt, however, stood her ground. “I am stating facts that your colleagues have stated in the past,” she responded, continuing to speak over Hunt as the host decided to end the segment. In other words, CNN kicked Leavitt off the show.
The moment quickly went viral on social media, with conservatives criticizing CNN for cutting the interview short. One user on X commented, “They should revoke CNN’s White House press pass for 6 months for this!” Another wrote, “Stating facts in a calm manner is apparently ‘attacking’ her colleagues,” as reported on The American Tribune.
Supporters of Leavitt praised her for challenging the network, with one post reading, “Leavitt at the White House, CNN already starts feeling the heat of truth.” The exchange highlights the ongoing tensions between the Biden White House and mainstream media outlets, as well as the deeply polarized state of political discourse ahead of the 2024 election that Donald Trump ultimately won against a weak Democratic candidate in Kamala Harris.
