Chip Roy could be in big trouble when it’s time for him to seek reelection, as he’s facing threats from Donald Trump. The incoming president threatened to primary Chip Roy, which means to help Chip Roy’s opponent defeat Roy if he seeks reelection.

Trump implied that Chip Roy was ‘getting in the way’ of trying to raise the debt ceiling amid talks. Trump said on Truth Social: “The very unpopular ‘Congressman’ from Texas, Chip Roy, is getting in the way, as usual, of having yet another Great Republican Victory — All for the sake of some cheap publicity for himself. Republican obstructionists have to be done away with.

Chip Roy responded to Trump’s primary threat, saying: “We’re working right now on how to actually cut spending, which is what the voters sent me to Washington to do.” Roy also stated on X: “My position is simple – I am not going to raise or suspend the debt ceiling (racking up more debt) without significant & real spending cuts attached to it. I’ve been negotiating to that end. No apologies.
