Cause of “bullied” teen death announced, family hires lawyer

A video showing teenage girls fighting in a high school bathroom ended up in one student passing away.  Her name is Shaylee Mejia and the medical examiner said the 16-year-old victim died from “accidental” blunt force trauma to her head. The mother claims the school was notified her daughter was being “bullied” but did nothing about it.

The incident took place at Manual Arts High School back on March 5.  Shaylee Mejia reportedly hit her head on a bathroom stall and fell to the ground. The student complained of headaches during the week following the fight, but continued going to school. She fainted at a party and was taken to a hospital where she fell into a coma and passed away six days later according to a report by KTLA5. The report said:

On Tuesday, a County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s initial report described the March 15 death as “accidental” and resulting from “Sequelae of blunt head trauma.” No further notes were found on the report.

The mother, Maria Juarez, said her daughter kept coming home with bruises on her body, possibly from fighting at school. Juarez said she notified the school about the alleged bullying, but the school officials didn’t do anything about it, said the report. The family now has legal representation and is considering a lawsuit.
